Becoming a Foster Parent - Step 1: Application

Layne Hedden August 29, 2023

Once you’ve decided to start your journey to become a foster caregiver, the first step is to begin the application process. Our agency uses Binti, a program that was written for licensing foster and adoptive families. We’ll get you set up on Binti by creating a profile for you with some basic information. After that, you can manage the program, tailored specifically to our agency’s requirements, at your own pace. All forms and documents can be completed on the secure system or uploaded from your device at home.

The first form you will have to complete is the Application for Child Placement. After you have completed and signed the application and uploaded your photo ID, you will be able to move on to the next step. Other forms and documents include: medical statements, financial statements, pet vaccinations, proof of insurance, fire inspection, etc. Two key forms that may require a little more time to complete are the Autobiography and the Home Study Questionnaire.  Don’t put these forms off until the end as they are necessary before we can assign an assessor to complete your home study! The Home Study Questionnaire asks about your thoughts and feelings on foster care and adoption, significant relationships, parenting, stress management, strengths and weaknesses, and much more. Answers should be thoughtful and detailed to facilitate the home study interviews.

As you work in Binti, help is always just a click away. The Binti Help Center provides answers to many common questions regarding navigating Binti and managing your profile. If you need further assistance, you can use the Chat feature in the bottom right corner on every page of the website. For questions about agency forms and documents, the Welcome Page provides contact information for an agency representative.

We are here to help you along your foster care journey. Agency staff will check in with you throughout licensing and are available to answer questions or address concerns. We want to help make this process as smooth as possible for you so that you can be on your way to helping families and changing lives!
