Child Protective Services (CPS) receives referrals alleging abuse and neglect of children under age 18 in the community. When a potential referral is received, it is screened by trained case workers to determine appropriate action, including intervention to maintain the child with the family.
In some situations, a child cannot be safely cared for, and placement outside of the home is deemed necessary by the juvenile court. Every effort is made to place children with kin. Foster homes or other substitute care placements are secured based on the child’s needs.
To report abuse concerns for children or the elderly, please call (330) 661-0800 during normal business hours. For an after-hour report, please contact the Medina County Sheriff’s department at (330) 725-6631, and they will page the on-call case worker to address the situation.
The Medina County Adult Protective Services Program (APS) has moved from Medina County Job and Family Services and now operates under the umbrella of the Medina County Office for Older Adults (OOA).*
*MCJFS still takes the phone calls that report elder abuse concerns.
